Individual and communal life in Alajärvi
Anttula is a seven-person group living home located in Alajärvi. It is a home for children and young people with multiple disabilities and those on the autism spectrum. At Anttula, every child and young person is treated as an individual. Everyday life is structured according to their needs, strengths and their own rhythm of life.
At Anttula, everyday life is built around closeness to nature, active activities and competent, present support. The well-being of children and young people is strengthened by a safe environment, predictable everyday life and trusting relationships. The goal is for children and young people to feel safe, be seen as themselves and live their own unique lives in their own home.
Active, happy everyday life
Nature is a part of everyday life in Anttula. The unit is located in the middle of nature, but close to the services of Alajärvi. This allows for a diverse and varied everyday life.
Outdoor activities are an important and enjoyable part of the day for children and young people. The large and diverse yard area offers a good setting for this all year round. The yard has direct access to the forest, and shared outdoor activities add rhythm to everyday life. Frying pancakes and sausages over a campfire is a beloved tradition for us in all seasons.
We regularly take trips outside the home. The trips are carried out according to the child’s or young person’s own wishes, either individually or in a small group. They bring variety to everyday life, excitement and new experiences.
Individual support, competent guidance and schooling
Anttula’s seven residences enable unhurried encounters and individual support. The unit is staffed by skilled and committed nurses and counselors. The atmosphere is warm, safe and genuinely welcoming.
Anttula also houses a special school. This enables smooth cooperation between everyday life, schooling and other support. The child’s and young person’s functional abilities are supported and strengthened daily. The activities are based on the child’s and young person’s strengths, interests and individual needs.
The staff has strong expertise in supporting children and young people with multiple disabilities and those on the autism spectrum. The work is based on predictability, safety and confidential interaction.
Collaboration with families
Collaboration with parents and loved ones is a central part of Anttula’s everyday life. Everyday practices and the overall support are planned together with the family. Other loved ones are also welcome to participate in the child’s or young person’s everyday life and planning.
The cooperation is open, respectful and long-term. The starting point of all activities is the best interests of the child and young person.
